Forgotten Moons…Discovered
“Somewhere between the first dark of the night and the first
light of dawn is that quiet place where worlds draw closer to each
other, that slack in the Tide of Time that allows us to navigate
across memory, history and legend.
It is a time of storytellers, poets and makers of music, those
who can steer for us a course that encompasses wonder, taking us
beyond the horizon to voyage beneath forgotten moons.
On one such evening, this journey began. Under the lamplight there
was talking and music that wound upon themselves like a knotwork
pattern, until the people and the deeds of a Forgotten Land began
to appear under the moonlight, over the sea.
It could be like this………Dermot the Hero, beloved
of the King’s daughter, is summoned to serve his King, journeys
to the royal court, arrives for the feast, and is offered his task.
He accepts his mission, goes forth to battle and outwit his land’s
darkest foes…….
Or so it seemed to us. Listen to the pattern of the music. Come
with us. See what you will see by the light of Forgotten Moons.”
Dursey Sound Connection
The Music
The playing of Dursey Sound Connection springs from the powerful
traditional music of Ireland and the Celtic peoples of Europe, a
tradition which is also the firm foundation their own compositions.
The band is the creation of Ecky Krup, twenty years a performer
and session musician in Ireland and Europe, who is responsible for
the seamless blend of traditional and new compositions that are
the band’s trademark. Forgotten Moons showcases not only his
ability as a composer but also his masterful playing skills.
Whether old or new, every piece the band plays is a tribute to
their musicianship with guitar, fiddle, whistle, flute, mandolin,
bodhran, banjo or accordion.
The concept for Forgotten Moons grew out of a trip to Dursey Island
in West Cork by means of its amazing cable car. The timeless, rugged
land and seascapes, (not to mention the band’s apprehension
at being suspended by wires over Dursey Sound!), gave rise to the
idea of presenting a Celtic journey in music.
